Roots Manuva

Released: 24 October 2005

Roots Manuva is a british hip-hop artist who mixes Hip hop with Reggae and Dub as well as Electronica and even some Gospel. Releasing for Coldcut’s renound experimental hip-hop label Ninja Tune in 1988, he is seen by many as central to the early UK rap scene, and some of his music may even be seen as a predecessor of grime.

With a truly inspired selection encompassing the whole gamut of underground and urban influences, Roots (AKA Rodney Smith) invites you to step into his world. For an hour or so at least…

"People have always spoken about me as an MC, which is cool, but there's a lot more to what I do than that. This has been a real opportunity for me to show my selecta side. In the days of soundsystems there'd be the sound guy, and the selecta, which back then would've been me. What are my favourites? They are all one to me!" – Roots Manuva
